It's been some time since I've accessed my own blog, not since I got my Macbook anyway.
(for some reason, my brain short-circuited and typed Mabcook thrice. >.<"')
It's been a time of trying to get used to the folders in the Macbook, trying to understand how to care for it and trying to find where all my downloaded files go to.
[And even as I type this, I can feel the imaginary ghost of my grammatically pedantic boss checking my punctuation. =p]
It's been a week of exploring the Macbook and rushing to get work done at The Workplace. Despite all the work I am slated to do over at The Workplace, I haven't regretted joining them. I know the general public's various misgivings, but it's my job to enjoy, not the public's.
Besides, working on Windows OS at work keeps me from being too obsessed with the Macbook and subsequently becoming a Mac fanatic. And honestly, it's really not as if the Mac OS is so great as to be able to convert me.
But buying the Macbook has taught me one lesson: Challenge yourself.
If I hadn't bought the Macbook, I would never have forced myself to learn and get used to something new. Now that I work on the Mac OS at home and Windows OS at work, I will have to train myself to be switch. And at this age, it's really not hard. So if I'm not going to learn to be flexible now, when will I?
The other good news is that I've started going to the gym. Yes, I know I desperately need some work done on myself. Another reason why I'm joining the gym is because I need my discipline back. Back in JC, all that running made me a stronger person who knew she could push herself the extra mile. Now, all that non-running has made me tofu, both physically and mentally. So now it's time to push =)
Someone introduced the Fish! Philosophy to me. Read here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FISH!_Philosophy. It emphasises 4 factors for creating an enjoyable workplace for your employees:
- Play.
- Make Their Day.
- Be There [for Coworkers].
- Choose Your Attitude.
Well, we can't quite choose how people make our day, and we can't quite control how and when colleagues can be there for us. But you can control the Play factor because that's entirely up to you. You can also choose your attitude, which is a right many people don't exercise. Maybe they don't understand that this helps their happiness in the long run. I know this doesn't work for long in a truly poisonous environment (I've been there, I've cheered myself up, but I could not stop my environment from poisoning me), but I know that waking up and not saying "Damn, I want to go to sleep instead of going to work" starts my day off so much better. I do think more people should try it. I just don't have faith that they will. =(
Like what I've said to people - be happy. Just Be Happy.
